Who Said Black Girls Can’t Code?

Growing up being fascinated with 1’s and 0’s wasn’t as painstakingly awkward as one may think. Well, at least I didn’t exhibit the awkward feelings. To this day, it’s still shocking to people that I’m so into coding. That I actually enjoy ruining my vision, staring at lines upon lines of code for hours on end until I can just figure out what the hell is causing my plugin I spent hours developing to blow up. To me, concurring a new code language gives me such self-gratification unmatched by any other activity in my life. That feeling of, “Damn I’m smarter than I thought” is one I’m sure anyone feels when overcoming an obstacle in his or her profession. What about when it’s not so expected of you to be that smart? When you have to constantly prove yourself and your skills? Who said Black girls can’t code? Let the skeptics of society tell you that we can’t, and you’ll always be shocked when you find one who can. Maneuvering a career in corporate IT would prove more difficult than I realized coming out of college. While companies lure you in with great benefits and pay, the thin veil of…
